Special fuel payment

The Grand Charity is making one-off payments to help with heating bills following an exceptionally cold winter. To help members of the Craft and their dependants, who are facing financial hardship as a result of increased bills, The Freemasons’ Grand Charity is making one-off payments of £125.  The money is being automatically awarded to individuals who have received a Masonic grant from the Charity from April 2009 to March 2010.

Freezing under the Arctic air mass that has settled over Britain, households have been forced to turn up their radiators for many hours in a bid to keep warm.  Following the coldest winter for 30 years the average household heating bill has risen by 20%. Even on a comfortable income this is an extra burden that would not go unnoticed, but for those households on a low-fixed income the additional expense is potentially devastating.

The one-off payment is an example of The Grand Charity’s commitment to finding new ways of supporting Brethren and their families who are in need.  Many of those who qualify for the additional payment are older members of the community who are particularly vulnerable to the cold. The Charity is confident this extra support will be of real benefit at a time when it is most required and is delighted to be able to help reduce the burden of the cost of staying warm.
