Tsunami Relief Activities
In December 2004 a tsunami devastated twelve countries in Asia and Africa. More than 250,000 people were killed and millions more were left homeless or displaced. During the months that followed the disaster Freemasons, shocked by the scale of the destruction and the loss of life, donated nearly £1 million to a dedicated Relief Chest established to collect money to assist the survivors.

Through Plan (external site), a child-centred community development organisation, the funds from the Relief Chest were used to support long-term projects in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Thailand. The focus was on helping children orphaned or otherwise affected by the disaster.
